Common concerns and questions about hiring a running coach
Trusting someone with your money, time and running progress is a huge deal. Because of this it’s really common for people to have concerns or questions. I’ve tried to answer them all here. If I’ve missed something here, let me know.
Common concerns
-
This is the most common concern people have.
The truth is though, there is no minimum speed limit to wanting some help.
There is never any judgment from me, my only role here is to help you in whatever way you need.
-
This is completely normal. Most new runners are terrified of being seen running. They maybe stick to treadmills or runnning at night.
This may be normal, but it’s not needed. Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to notice you running.
When was the last time you took serious notice of a runner and was still thinking about it more than 20 minutes later.
-
If you’ve had a history of injury or are just scared of it, that’s ok and normal.
My role is to guide you through running without injury, helping you identify the normal aches and pains, as well as the pains that should be of concern.
-
Everything about your running is yours. Your stats, history and goals are yours and remain that way, even when being coached.
If you’d like a more hands off approach to coaching where my role is more about guidance than structured planning, we’ll work that way.
Some people prefer more or less autonamy over their running and that’s fine, I’m here to help you however you feel it’s best.
-
This is true. Many people don’t need a coach.
I recommend people pay a coach when two main criteria are met:
They can afford it, and properly afford it without money stress.
They feel the extra expensive and help given as a result, will be a net positive for them in any amount of ways.
Common questions
-
No, absolutely not. I despise this method of keeping people on board. You are free to cancel or pause at any moment, without notice. You do have to let me know though.
If you cancel in the middle of a two week block you’ve already paid for, there are no refunds but any planning we’ve done and notes taken is all yours forever.
-
A$70 every two weeks. This aligns with how we’ll plan your schedule.
-
This really does depend. Lots of the value from coaching comes from personalisation. We can definitely chat about it though!
I do offer plenty of free group sessions though! These aren’t personalised.
-
Yes. I’ve helped new runners do everything from their first 5k, to their first marathon.
I’ve helped these same runners reach time goals at all of these distances too.
